The JWN Picnic is back at Monroe Park this year to celebrate the long awaited reopening of our newly renovated restrooms. Thanks to a previous park bond levy, we now have an updated and weather-tight facility to serve the critical need for public restrooms. The new restrooms are the culmination of a JWN campaign to increase access to restrooms that began in 2016. First we advocated to open the restrooms outside of specific events, then year round. Next we persuaded the city to install temporary weather-proofing. Finally, we convinced the city to dedicate the funds for the remodel. The upgraded restrooms also have successfully addressed people using the park bushes and alleys as a toilet. The renovated restrooms, new lighting, new park furniture (coming soon), and hundreds of volunteer hours are all part of the JWN’s and the Friends of Monroe Park’s efforts to enhance this important public resource. Currently, we are negotiating with Parks for event access to water and power.

  1. 6:30 – Meeting called to order.
  2. 6:30 – 6:35: Introduction of board members.
  3. 6:35 – 6:40: Introduction, comments, and announcements from non-board members. Presiding officer will ask non-board members to indicate if they want to speak. Comments are limited to 3 minutes per speaker, reducible to no less than 2 minutes by the presiding officer if there are more than 3 speakers.
  • The public comment period is not a discussion. The Board will not address questions asked by guests during the public comment period unless they can be answered succinctly and with the three-minute time limit. More detailed responses requested will be addressed via email. Guests will be directed to submit questions to the JWN email address to be answered.
  • Guests who wish to stay to observe the meeting must turn off their video and mute after speaking.
  • Once guests have spoken, they should refrain from posting in the chat or interjecting themselves into the discussion.
  • Guests will be warned once for prohibited behavior and will be removed from the meeting on the second violation.
  • Guests who have been invited to participate on specific agenda item may, of course, engage in discussion on that item.
